Pretty silhouette: the Victoire 42 RE
The Dutch brand Victoire is celebrating a comeback with the 42 RE. The Koopmans design has been completely adapted to today's needs

The 42 RE is characterised by more interior height thanks to a larger freeboard, a new interior design and changes to the deck. According to the shipyard, the lines should appear clearer and more elongated. But the most important thing is this: There is a new Victoire for sale again at all. After the company Ship Republic in Monnickendam took over the rights to the brand in 2009, the 37 and 42 models are now being revised.

Design for lake and café

Renewal with a sense of proportion is the motto. The designers at Powerhouse Company have succeeded in achieving this with the 42, as it is still genetically a true Koopmans family child: short, low superstructure, halyards operated at the mast and a strongly tapered stern. Although this means that there are only one and a half berths aft, it also ensures good sailing characteristics. These are traditionally the strength of the Victoires and are also reflected in a ballast ratio of around 40 per cent. The fact that this does not have to stand in the way of an appealing exterior is impressively demonstrated by the "Siegreiche": the flush foredeck and Esthec planking contrast nicely with the dark hull and match the flat lines.

Maximum customisation

A special production process ensures almost unlimited design options below deck. The bright white interior of construction number 1 is just one of many possible layouts. But a successful one. It is also strongly reminiscent of the Sentijn 37 IQ. A dog baking box accessible through the toilet room and the cooking island in the centre in front of the companionway show this. On paper, it looks both pretty and seaworthy.

A real sailor?

A sail area of just 80 square metres and a weight of ten tonnes result in a sail load factor of 4.2 - not a lot, on the contrary: at first glance, the 42 RE is a pure tourer. It will therefore have to prove that it can compete with modern designs, especially in lighter conditions.

How do you like this article?

Entry into the world of the new Victoires currently starts at just under 500,000 euros for the 42 RE. This includes the complete Esthec deck as standard. And the touch of individualism that characterises a yacht from the Koopmans family with the name Victoire.
